Allegany Co-op Insurance Company is an emblem of stability, security, and integrity in an age of insurance company “musical chairs”.

Our policyholder centered heritage goes back to the year 1887, when a group of Allegany County farmers, believing rates charged by stockholder owned insurance companies were excessive, decided to do something about it!  In a “co-operative” effort, they formed an association of members who paid losses with borrowed funds, and at the end of the year, assessed members proportionally to the amount of insurance they carried in order to repay creditors.

Much has changed at Allegany since the nineteenth century.  We now collect our premium assessment in advance allowing us to pay losses and expenses from cash on hand.  We have substantial assets and policyholder surplus, and are rated “A” by A.M. Best.  We offer a variety of products insuring homes, businesses, and contractors as well as farms.  Our products are marketed by a carefully selected group of independent agents.

Some things haven’t changed as the twenty first century gets underway.  Our home office is still based in Allegany County, New York, although we now have a Rochester, New York, location at 3861 Lyell Road.  We remain committed to providing our policyholders the very best in coverage and service.  We continue to have the benefit of a forward-looking Board of Directors.  And, we look forward to continuing our heritage of service with policyholders throughout the state.
